It is such an emotional journey to take on the responsibility for another life; in many ways a fur-kid is just like any other, don't you think? When it is your 'first,' every decision seems to be that much more important to you.....

OP, one of the major lessons I have learned is 'once you know better, you do better.' It doesn't help at all to beat yourself up about something you couldn't have understood at the time. Seeking out information and being open to learning says so much about you! I'm sure you will be an excellent parent.
