It can be very confusing. Try this~ go a little early to the next one. Perhaps even to another ring or the same ring showing other breeds. Ask some people that are watching the dogs if they can help explain a little to you. If you can see a small group of people sitting together that is usually a good sign of friends out for the show. This or a person alone or a pair of people. Ignore someone very focused of stressed lol.
You may or may not be judging the breed you would if you knew what was being shown. At times judges do choose dogs that aren't the best ones. However, they are supposed to follow a standard. But it's not all fair and square. It can be close at times.
Dog shows are really enjoyable. But if you don't understand what's being shown then you're missing out on some of the fun. You will get addicted if you learn it.

But even following the AKC standard we all have favorite things we like. It can take away from the standard at times. Our standard is so wishy washy. It can be defined many different ways. What color is steel blue to you?
