I hate carpeting and love love love hardwood floors for exactly the reason you mentioned. As long as the wood is properly sealed with several coats of poly, they are extremely easy to clean. I usually vacuum with my Rainbow first, then mop.....I use very hot water and a squirt of windex to cut the dirt. The less water that is left standing on the wood, the better. A little potty accident isn't really a problem. It is just so nice to know that the mess is totally gone, not lingering under layers of padding. My motto? Life's messy....clean it up!
