I love Nature's Variety Instinct. The Rabbit & the Turkey/Duck formulas are both 35% protein, so still high but not as high as EVO. They do contain salmon meal, though. If your concern is ethoxiquin - NV confirmed that there is none in their fish meal.
If this is still too high in protein, I'd recommend the NV Praire line. The Prairie isn't grain-free like Instinct, but it's an excellent food. They have several varieties that aren't chicken: venison, beef, lamb, etc.
