I'm researching about getting a Yorkie. I'm curious as to whether or not you knew your puppy was going to be 10 pounds or more? We love our 12 year old Tibetan Spaniel, who is 15 pounds. But I'm looking for a smaller breed for when I do therapy dog work. How often do you find they end up way bigger than represented as a puppy? |
The general "rule of thumb" is to double the 12 week weight and then add one pound or so. Jackson pretty much followed this to a tee. At 12 weeks old, he weighed 6lbs and now as a one year old he is 12.5. So when you go looking for puppies (generally breeders won't sell until 12 weeks old if they're reputable) look for the ones that weigh between 4-6lbs already.
