Okay, I'm all about getting the laws changed... Where do we go from here?
Join YAP, it's a club here at Yorkietalk, Yorkies against Puppymills, and we try to inform members when certain laws are being passed that might effect your state. The Oprah show encouraged Pennsylvania to pass some good legislation that helped raise kennel conditions, and some of the same ideas are being considered in many other states. The bad news is that the commercial breeders lobby is very big, and they pass a lot of propaganda and scare tactics that have small and good breeders running scared, so they join in with commercial breeders in fighting the legislation. Even though the law will be very clear in saying things like this only applies to those breeders who have over 10 litters a year, small breeders are still scared and they think they will have to kennel all their dogs or abide by other regulations. It's almost impossible to fight with these lobbyists as they target small breeders and know how to influence them. On the other hand, as pet lovers we should be aware that there are groups that want to do away with all breeding and don't differentiate between a small hobby breeder or a commercial breeder, so the pet lover has to know which laws are good and which are dangerous. Unfortunately, the commercial pet lobby argues better than I do. To join Yap, just click on the link in my signature, and we'll know where to find you!
