I don't know for sure about the quarantine period on coming back into the states, I'm sure you probably are right Orinskye(it makes a lot of sense). Also I believe some countries make pets go through a quarantine period when you get there as well. I know certain countries are rabies(and probably other things)free and do not want it brought in, I think Hawaii is actually like this too(rabies free). But if the country you are going to visit makes you quarantine it may not even be worth taking the dog depending on how long the quantine period is and how long you stay.
