If this happens whenever you rub your dog's back I would get it checked out, he could have some type of a back injury. If it happens occasionally, I wouldn't worry about it, you might be just hiting a tickle spot. As far as him not seeming to like it, I would stop doing it, but I hope this doesn't mean that you can never rub his back at all. All the other dogs I've had loved to get tummy rubs, and would jerk their legs during a tummy rub in a trance like state, but Joey doesn't seem to have a spot like this.
