I have had some expierence with mastitis. I had a breeder tell me to put cold cabbage leaves on the teat and keep it there with a sock, like a compress. It really helped bring the swelling down for Ellie. She only got it in one teat, and it worked great. She also told me to express any of the pus that I could through the nipple. It helped it to drain. She also told me to get some ph strips to test it. You want it to read yellow. If it reads purple, then the drainage is still toxic and not to let the babies drink from that nipple. However, once it turns yellow, basically no reaction on the paper, the babies could drink from that nipple again. I hope that this information helps. Ellie was also put on antibotics which didn't hurt the babies at all.
