My boys have short ponytails. I pull them out every night before bed and then put their hair back up in the morning. We also use tiny plush ponytail holders (from the baby section) for everyday use and save the grooming bands (sorta like the bands that go on braces) for special occasions. When I use the everday bands I have to redo their hair several times a day as the hair does escape while they play. The other bands grip a little tighter and stay in place better.
