After a lot of reading I've learned that many dogs have giardia but it is inactive until the dog comes under stress and then it can take off. But unless it is active it cannot be detected in the stool. In fact it can only be detected in the stool in just one stage of it's life.

So I cannot understand how they can find girardia in the stool of a dog that is not showing symptoms of it.

Now this is just the conclusions that I have drawn.. If someone has more information I am eager to learn.
