What I did to moisten Winston's food was heat the water in the microwave for 30 seconds, dump in the dry food immediately. As soon as it was cooled off enough the food would be soft enough for him to eat. I find that this softened it a little faster and he liked it warm. I don't think it really lost any nutrients so I wouldn't be too worried about it.
