What a wide range of reactions. This thread is all kind and sweet and supportive of Morkies and their owners, others just lambast owners as nuts not to get a pure bred, or a rescue from a shelter. They are just absolutely certain that ANYONE who sells pups on the internet has GOT to be a puppy mill. They accuse anyone who buys a puppy in such a manner of being horrible people not worthy of owning a dog.
Until I reached this thread, I had decided that I wouldn't even bother announcing my joy at a new pup.
You see, here's the thing; I'm allergic to dogs. I mean I'm asthma-attack allergic to dogs. This said, both my brothers have, or have had, yorkies and I was fine with them. I did find them both a little high-strung, emotionally high maintenance, the dogs I mean, not my brothers!
I currently have a maltichon, whom I adore, and he actually can cuddle up on the bed with me, that's how hypoallergenic he is. I have been told that it's the Maltese in him that keeps him grounded. The Bichon in him makes him really spunky.
My precious maltichon is dying. He has cancer and the cause is environmental, not genetic. So, while I am looking at his imminent demise, I distract myself from crying by looking for my next moment of joy.
A shelter is out of the question. In less than 10 minutes in one of those places, I would be gasping for breath. 15 minutes and they would have to call the paramedics. That's no way to choose a lifelong friend.
I have looked high and low here in the San Francisco Bay Area for someone local who breeds Morkies. And I have found some...who want upwards of $1000 for a puppy! THAT is just not going to happen.
So I have found a woman in the middle of the country who breeds some puppies and ships them, all for a reasonable price. Now before the hue and cry about this begins, I would like to point out that she has a grand total of 16 puppies for sale, out of 4 litters. She sells Morkies, Maltichons, Yorkies, and Maltese, period! She will only let her puppies go after age 12 weeks. She demands references from you. If you don't measure up, you don't get one of her puppies. She guarantees the health of the puppy for 2 years provided you have the pup checked out by your vet within 5 days of getting it home. SHE IS NOT RUNNING A PUPPY MILL!!!
What I would really like to hear about here is more about morkies. My maltichon is the baby huey of the breed. When he's in his fighting trim he weighs in at a solid 24 pounds. I am hoping for something smaller than that next time around. I need to travel to TN a couple of times a year to visit my parents and I want to take my pup with me in the cabin of the aircraft. So, on average, how big are your morkies?
What is their disposition like? I can read breed descriptions on the net 'til the cows come home, I would like to know your stories. Please.
Thanks so much.
