Hi are you sure it was a splinter ? maybe he got stung and its the stinger. I would keep an eye on it and just give the vet a call and ask what you should do . if it gets red and swells then he probaly got stung. if hes still limping and seems in a lot of pain Id go ahead and take him in to have it checked.
