I think the most important thing that should be considered when looking for a pup is the breeder, regardless of if the puppy is AKC or CKC registerable. It would be just as easy for you to be sold a not-pure-bred dog that is AKC as it would to be sold a not-pure-bred-dog that is CKC. Aquiring papers for a pup depends on who the breeder reports the parents to be. For example, if I had an AKC registered female and male and a CKC or non-registered male. Which kennel club would be able to determine that the 2 ACK dogs were really the parents? What would stop someone from breeding the AKC female and the non-registered male, but claiming the pups were from AKC parents? Does that make sense. I think you really have to put alot of trust in the breeder--that piece of paper, regardless of the kennel club, is only as good as ANY breeder says it is.
