My ABU is normally a very fun loving excited puppy. He is five mo. old.
Weighing 2.6 lbs. I noticed two days ago before we were going to leave for a trip that he was lying still in his crate and not moving, I tried to coax him out and he just laid there. So i grabbed him, and picked him up, his eyes were closed. I tried to wake him and I opened his eyes all i saw was white and they were rolled back. Immediately I got my karo syrup and put some on his tongue he was half awake, rolling around and walking funny, lethargic. I was thinking maybe hypoglycemia, but I have him on a diet of Royal Canin (which i hear is one of the best) (and stinking expensive!!! grr) But i would do anything for this little pup. I also have nutri-cal that i give him. The vet ran everything, his temp was normal, urinalysis, bloodwork, fecal, catheter, iv's, etc. Said he was malnourished etc.?
I was apalled, because I have tried so hard to give him syrup and make sure he drinks and eat, lately I have just laid out his food in the bowl after I heat it up a little w/ some water, also dry food during the day.
The vet told me nutrical every two hours and prescription canned food every four...prescription science diet, A/D and pedialyte. So i keep shoving everything down his poor little throat, (he just hates it) (syringe)
He seems ok for a little while, but still so tired and his eyes slowly close.
IS he just tired and worn out, stressed from me pressuring him to eat? right now he is just pacing the floor back and forth up and down. He had a little bit of gas yesterday and finally had a BM today after nothing yesterday...I really am scared..he's the sweetest. His gums are pink...i don't know what to do!!!! Also how much do i feed him? i am at least 3 times a day but how much food would u say?
