You should really try a xpen or play pen for him. I keep Libbie in one all day when I'm away or busy doing something and don't want her running around. It gives her room to run, make sure you put toys in there for him to play with so he doesn't get too bored and a pee pad just in case he pees or poo in there. Libbie still does it from time to time.
The only time I put her in a cage/dog carrier is when shes being bad. Its kind of like her time out.
