We have the adjustable tempurpedic, king size. We have two twin XL mattresses because each side of the bed can be raised and lowered independently of the other. My husband has heart and lung problems and he needs to have the head of the bed up quite a bit to sleep. I didn't necessarily want to have to sleep with my head up that high so we got the split king and split frame.
We tried out (in store) the sleep number bed, but liked the tempurpedic the best - it just felt the best to us. But we have an aunt and uncle who prefer the sleep number bed, so I think it is a lot of individual taste.
The tempurdedic is wonderful for us as my husband has restless leg syndrome and is a very active sleeper - thus in our old bed his movements really affected my sleep. In the tempurpedic bed, I do not feel him at all.
Some people feel the tempurpedic mattress is hot, but we don't seem to find it that way at all - but I know that some do.
Turning over in a tempurpedic bed is harder than regular mattresses. There is no bounce to the mattress at all, so when you turn, it is more difficult to shift your body weight.
We think the tempurpedic bed is the absolute BEST! We just love the way it feels. We've had it for 5 years and it is in perfect shape. The sides are not sagging in any way, and it feels just like it did when it was new. Also, we really love the adjustable frame - it is so nice.
My husband has chronic back problems, so his doctor wrote a prescription for the bed and then we didn't have to pay sales tax on it - which was nice since it is pretty expensive - BUT WELL WORTH THE MONEY!
We bought it from an independent dealer near our home and they were wonderful to work with. We did not have any warranty issues, so I can't speak to that.
I think both the sleep number and tempurpedic beds are excellent products and that you can't go wrong with either one! Also, if you do a search, you may come up with other threads debating the merits of both.
