When I took her to the vet on the 19th right after she whelped, she checked out fine.
Also, she's whining a LOT if I am not constantly petting her. As in, every minute of the day, she has to be in my lap with my hand stroking her, or she has to be in my arms at all times if I'm walking around my house. Maybe this might just be because she gave birth and has no puppies to show for it so her hormones are wacky..? She's extremely attached to me now.
And lastly, she has never panted.. not during labor, whelping, or post-whelping, but she has been shivering constantly. Any ideas? I googled a ton of info but she doesn't have any symptoms of uterine infection or anything else. Her appetite is excellent, no limb stiffness, she's energetic, no abnormal discharge etc..
Sorry if I sound crazy! I'm just very concerned and/or paranoid. I was so upset about her dead little boy and I will literally die if something happens to Roxie. (I do plan on calling the vet in the morning anyway.. but just thought I'd mention it here first) |
Reading your post gave me a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't know if your girl had a C-section or not but one of my girls that had to have a c-section had these exact same symptoms. Turned out to be a heating pad burn. It was the WORST 3 months caring for her injuries. The emergency clinic didn't want to take responsibility for it and every vet I took her to would call the emergency clinic to report what I had said. There wasn't ANY vet in my area at the time I could take her to. I have a nursing back round so I did her care myself and still hold feelings of anger at my vet for not standing up for me to the board of the emergency clinic. You won't see many symptoms specific to this injury for a day or so except what you've described. I took her to the vet the day after the surgery and they couldn't find anything wrong. I noticed a shiver/ripple and then there were "wet" spots that were the blisters breaking. I took her back to my vet about 4 days after the c-section for what I thought were abcesses and when they tried to shave her hair to get a closer look, the skin started to peel away. I'm sorry this is not for the sqweemish. I do have pictures taken over time if anyone is interested. Anyway, I hope this isn't what she is experiencing but it may be a possibility.
