Samson was great from day one when we brought him home, Harley on the other hand cried for hours at night, this was even with him sharing his xpen with Samson. I didn't get any sleep for the first two weeks. I thought I was going to die, I was so moody (I need my sleep). Just be consistent with him and I agree don't pick him up while he is crying. Now Harley loves his xpen for sleeping. He even goes up to it at night and stands there and cries so I will pick him up and put him in there so he can sleep. It is the funniest thing, I am watching TV and all of a sudden he'll be crying and I look over and he just wants in his pen. I put him in there and he nest with all his blankets and then sleeps for the night.
