The more you pick him up after he cries the more he will think he is gettting away with it and that it is ok...I had to do this with peanut when he was a pup but it worked this is what I did
Put peanut in the xpen or crate...Stand there when he starts to cry tell him to "Shh" and as soon as he stops wait a second and give him a treat and tell him he is a good boy...you kind of have to repeat it a couple times until he gets it and every time do it for a longer time period..
Then when he has that down try it by leaving the room..
He will get the hint..but dont pick him up when he is crying..thats when they think they are allowed to do it!!
