I live on my own, so I was afraid of not being able to be a good mom since I work full time. But I'm a dog person and allergic to cats anyway - so I did a lot of research be sure I'd make a good decision. I also had always had larger dogs growing up (like Norweigan Elkound and Scotties) so I wasn't sure I even liked tiny dogs! But let me tell you - when I picked Bailey up from his breeder - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!! And I committed myself to seriously adding playtime into my busy schedule. We play at least a solid 1/2 hour before I leave and when I return from work. I try to wear him out before I go, we take a walk in the nieghborhood and he loves fetch throughout my home! And I try to focus on him when I come home for that 1/2hr. before I get involved in dinner or phone calls or whatever. They're like children with lots of energy and they need lots of love and affection - and a playmate! So of course when I'm home, he follows me everywhere and I play with him constantly! I also try to take him with me anytime I can. I started driving with him immediately, so he doesn't stress when we go places. He loves to go to PetsMart, the gas station and especially "Grandma's House"!!! I try to take him to my parents' house a couple times a week so he gets to explore their house, get extra love from my parents and younger siblings and play with their dogs. He loves it! It's a big commitment, but the joy you get from having a Yorkie - honestly it sounds hokey, but it's indescribable!!! So I highly recommend it if you can create a rythm that will work for you and your new baby!
Sorry I'm so "wordy" - but that's my 2 cents for ya! ~Kelley
