yes it should be discussed with your vet and a decision should be made based on the prevalence in your area and the amount of exposure your pet gets to the possible sources of lepto. If its determine that you need to get the vaccine for your pet then something can be given beforehand to counteract the possible reaction. I do have to say i rarely saw a serious reaction to the lepto (and rabies) vaccine.
