At around 1pm & 1:15 he threw up some bile (yellow) , he does this sometimes so I wasn't too concerned as he usually does it when he hasn't eaten. He also went to the bathroom at this time and it was greenish and slightly less solid than usual.
Well around 7:30 pm he threw up again this time it had about 5 tiny blobs of fresh blood in it (now I am starting to worry)
He was still acting normal and will eat and drink. I give him some cottage cheese to ease his stomach and he gulps it down since he hadn't eaten all day. He then regurgitates it (NOT VOMITING) he was barking and some just fell out of his mouth with no effort at all, then he was playing and more fell out undigested with mucous from the esophagus.
At this time he was acting like he isn't feeling well and just wants to cuddle, around 10 p.m he goes poo and it's not quite diarreah but softer than usual with some smushy liquid and dark brown with some blood tinged mucous in it.
By then he was back to acting normal again and still drinking but I began witholding food after the cottage cheese regurgitation.
So now today he wakes up and is back to his normal self. The vet wants him on a bland diet until the end of the week just rice, cottage cheese and chicken and he is only eating 2 tbs every 4 hours. He is holding it all down etc. We are just concerned about the bit of blood in the vomit... He also felt warm to touch and now feels normal temp. Could it have been a case of slight pancreatitis or the food change? (we had to change his food because the only store that sells Innova puppy in town ran out so I bought Innova adult the day before he got sick)
I am baffled and now I have set an appointment for bloodwork with the vet this week. I just don't understand this.. could he really just be that sensitive? He vomited chicken jerky when I gave him that and he cannot eat anything but plain yogurt, apples, cottage cheese, rice, chicken and dog food as well as yogurt drops and had no problems with yorkie yummies or chicken crisps.
Any ideas on what this could have been? the vet says it could have been the food change, but like me she is concerned about the blood in the vomit. However, she also said if he's better today then he doesn't need to be seen... but I can bring him in for testing this week if I want (and I do)
What do I ask for etc.?
All Advice is appreciated |

my dex had pancreatitis and they toss and turn and cannot get comfortable and do a prayer position alot where butt is in air to stretch tummy as it is very painful. Many times they can vomit up blood from vomitting too much and same with poop if they have diarhea alot as blood vessels can break. I would not give yogurt or cottage cheese as too high in fat and some dogs are lactose intolerant thus causing diarrhea. If it happened after food change i would say this caused it. What is fat content on old food and new food? did you switch slowly or all at once?
ask your vet if they have in house spec cpli test bc if they do not it takes 3-4 days to get back as that is the true test for pancreatitis. If that vet does not i would find one that does have the inhouse to get immediate results. If he is still sick I would get blood work done but sounds like upset from food change. I would do a very bland chicken and white rice diet in small amounts and if he vomits i would stop food for 12 hrs and only allow water. They can go 5-7 days with no food no prob it is water that they need.
