I keep all of mine in the fenced back yard only, because so many where I live (country road) let their dogs run loose and they do use my front yard as a toliet. I would not mind an occasional brown spot in the grass to contend with, but I do mind those mountains of poo that the huge dogs leave. Hit one of those with a lawn mower and you will stink up a two block area for the day! I also mind that disease is spread from urine as well as feces. Leptospirosis for instance, is caused by bacteria that are spread from urine of infected animals. One variety, Leptospira canicola, is mainly spread by dogs. There are others too. I can't know that all of the neighbor dogs are disease free.
If I had my druthers, no other animals would be using my lawn -- then I would feel free to let my own on it all instead of making them stay in the back. But if I could just get part of my druthers it would be to keep the dung heaps out of my yard. |
