It happened right here in MD not 5 miles from Balto. A baby I placed was an adult who was NEVER allowed outside, period. One day she scooted out the back door and not 10 feet from the house a hawk swept down and grabbed her by the back. She was heavier OR the hawk didn't get a good hold and it grabbed her wee face with its beak to get a better grip, and she wriggled free. Luckily, the talons did not sever her spinal cord-a very real possibility. She has talon mark scars down both sides of her spine and a scar on her face. Otherwise she is fine..I have always told buyers of my animals NEVER, NEVER LET THEM OUT EVEN ON THE DECK!!! My son is a licensed falconer and his demo of hunting with his hawk made me aware of the sound of their wings. One came down over my back deck and I HEARD THE SOUND OF THE WINGS. I waived the newspaper and my arms and chased her away. My baby was at my feet!!!!!!! |
