I have some relatives who live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan right on Lake Superior and they have a lot of wooded area and dense forest surrounding their home. They have two yorkies and every time they come inside, even after a quick bathroom break, they are checked for ticks. While you are camping, I recommend checking for ticks regularly just to be careful. If you do find a tick, the soap method works well, as does using tweezers. Burning them is a commonly used method but is not recommend because this actually spreads bacteria. (And can be dangerous!) Another thing to keep in mind- Ticks cannot jump like fleas can, so the most common way dogs get ticks on them is if they go through heavy wooded areas or brush up against bushes, or the ground where ticks lie. If you remain in open areas and keep them out of heavy brush areas you are less likely to get ticks! Also be wary of other wild creatures running around. If your yorkie is skunked it is no fun! Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!
