I am keeping a log so I can try to get his pattern. 45 minutes after he eats I take him out and we just walk around - NOTHING HAPPENS. I'm not sure he can tell he has to go until it is to late and he usually poops on the rug. If I happen to be outside with him he will poop outside. PLEASE - does anyone have any potty training suggestions. He is 3.5lbs am I expecting to much from him. Also, eventhough he is doing very well with his peeing outside, he does not tell us he has to go outside. If I see him stop playing and start sniffing around, I take him out. But I always take him out every two - 2 1/2 hours either way. Sometimes he pees outside and then comes inside and poops!!! HELP. any suggestions? Thanks, Elle
You could try crating him when he eats and naps - for little rest periods during the day (or if you figure it out, around the times when he has to go poop), then let him out to his potty area (leashed if you have to so he knows it is not playtime) and ask him to go. If he doesn't go in a few minutes, put him back in the crate and try again in about ten minutes. Repeat the process until he poops and then he can have free time in the house again. If you can, when he is going say, "Go potty" (or whatever phrase you want to use) - do this *while* he is going, as well as beforehand. When he goes praise him to high heaven and give him a treat. He'll learn that he should go when you want and where you want.

If he or you aren't used to crating or scheduling, it could be a rough/time consuming process - but the goal is that he learns that when it is time to potty, it's time to potty and afterwards he can go back to playing. It shouldn't take too long for him to get the drift.
