The registry of choice and probably the best and oldest is AKC, although as stated above just because your dog is registered AKC doesn't mean you have the best of the best. It only guarantees you the right to go back and challenge who you got your puppy from if there is any problems with their parentage. The other registries were established for various dogs UKC for hunting dogs and others for other reasons....Puppy Mills and not so great breeders turned to those registries as they find it easier to register puppies....Less, control (AKC does impromptu inspections), and an intention to fool the unsuspecting/unknowledgable public.
