We get our puppies dews removed at the time of tail docking (or in the case of a Biewer just for the dews). Some will never have a problem if left on, but sometimes they will snag and you have to remember to cut them or they will curl up and into their skin. If when they are older and they snag a lot the vet will have to remove them and the surgery is a big deal compared to if they just had them taken off at birth.
