Yes, they let us go back the first time also - mostly just to introduce themselves and let us look around. After the dentist is through with a child, they send them to the playroom where they have stuff for all ages to play with - small kid toys, video games, the works - and then they call the parent into a conference room where they show you x-rays and talk about everything they've done or need to do. It's a lot easier to concentrate on what they are telling you when you don't have a kid hanging on you. Seriously, if you trust your dentist, it's not a bad deal. I mean really, we all know how most kids act up more with a parent around. Just ask any day care worker.... a crying kid is usually just fine as soon as the parent leaves.

We are in a smaller town and pretty much everyone knows everyone. That makes a bit of a difference also. Good luck with your dentist!

Wanted to say also.... I'm glad you went with a pediatric dentist. That was the best decision we made too. Our's is also an orthodontist so he was able to do a lot of "prep work" in their early years that led up to getting into braces easily.
