The study was done for cats not dogs. However, apparently there is no real scientific evidence that long term use of Metronidazole (Flagil is the same medication only a different name) in dogs is harmful. The dose will be reduced and Emma will have to be wached. I will find out for sure when I bring her home. Waiting for a phone call from Tufts.
Thank you so much for your prayes for Emma and baby Chase. The next few days are critical for Chase. I will give Emma a kiss from everyone on this forum who have been so kind and helpful since this whole process began. |
what about tylan powder as that is safer long term than metronidazole and many ibd dogs do well on it long term. It is dosed down lower than metronidazole and usually used for toy breed dogs over metronidazole as metro has to be compounded for toy breeds. This may be something to discuss with ims as my internal medicine specialist and i discussed this and she uses tylan for long term in toy breeds. Just a thought if you have to do long term antibiotics for intestinal upset
