Unhappy Bad news at the vet

Tobie has been yelping occasionally while playing with the other dogs and at first I couldn't figure out why... then I noticed this morning he limped for a minute after he yelped and then went back to walking normally. When we went to the vet today, I told him that I thought one of his back legs was bothering him and I was worried about LP. I also told him that Tobie seemed hesitant to jump up lately. He felt around his back leg and didn't think it was LP but he was worried about his hips so they did an x-ray. They came back and said he has "Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head" in both of his hips. Apparently, it's a genetic thing that causes the head of the femur to look like cottage cheese (his words) instead of being smooth and round.
They gave me some glucosamine and said to have him rest for a couple of weeks. He said some outgrow it and have very few problems and some get worse and end up needing surgery. So far it hasn't really caused him very many problems and runs arounds and plays like any other puppy.

Does anyone else know anything about this or have a Yorkie that has it? I'm just hoping that it ends up not being a very big deal but should I be worried???
