For nail cutting, what we do is get a second person to help..... My boyfriend holds Dooie in his arms while he is sitting in a chair (to stay balanced). Boyfriend talks to him (saying good boy etc.) and holds his head gently but firm with Dooies face directed AWAY from me and the cutters. I then take his most exposed easy-to-get-at paw, and start one paw at a time, clipping carefully, then we take a little break for a tiny treat, then do it again. This routine runs quite smoothly for us.
As for groomers, my experience is that Petsmart was very agressive and mean to Dooie, now he wont even walk into a pet store with me. He cry's and shakes and has total social anxiety. I really do think it's because of how rough they were to him. Never Again!!!
What you can do is go online and Google search "dog groomers in Calgary" (you'll want to put your city name obviously) Start from the top and click on each website. Most places will have before and after pics of their work so it should give you a bit of an idea of what to expect from them.
Another thing you can do is, if your in a park and see a really well groomed dog, even if it's not a Yorkie, walk up and ask the owner where they go. We LOVE talking about our babies, don't we? They wont mind sharing the secret.....
Good luck.
