Another I know of was found (named Spike) after WEEKS alone in the 2nd story of a house. When the rescue request came in I was really down because his chances were not good. BUT HE MADE IT!

Many of the residents were forced to leave their pets on highways at the Superdome and convention center. They waded water and rode in boats to high ground only to be told by the authorities NO PETS ALLOWED on buses. They had to leave them in the care of the authorities and many pets are missing. Many are being reunited, but the Yorkie success rate is not good. Pets were to be logged in and transported to Gonzales, LA where they would be fostered until the owner claimed them. The foster system broke down with so many foster groups coming in and signing animals out and then adopting them out, ignoring that they were to be fostered only. All pets were to have pictures available on Petfinder Katrina Found pets section, but only one third of Yorkies have pictures with their record. In some cases, hoarders may have taken the dogs. In some cases the foster groups are not reputable, so the dogs are missing, stolen is another way to say it. Some groups post a Yorkie in Petfinder under Pit Bull for example in an attempt in my personal opinion to make it hard for the owner to find the Yorkie. I have spoken with foster groups who deny that they have a certain animal and someone representing their group did indeed sign paperwork signing the pets out in LA. Too, a large number of papers were ruined altogether in the Rita evacuation of the Katrina pet staging areas, so the paper trail is lost. Hope is not lost though. Most people truly loved their furbabies and they deserve to be reunited. When they left their flooded homes, they took their Yorkie only to have it taken away later.
