Urgent Message About Deadly Parvo Strain
Canine parvovirus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nobivac™*DHPPi
im so glad they are better above is some info on parvo.
ive been looking in to vaccinations for over a year now as i wasnt sure if i should have two of my dogs done or not as theres been a lot of talk about vaccines causing health problems in dogs but also that the live vaccines may infect the dog with the illnesses that its ment to prevent.
i wouldnt thing your pups would of got parvo from the vets the day before as it takes 5 to 10 days after infection to show signs of parvo, as its something that can be bought in to the home on feet it could of come from anywhere.
most vaccines shouldnt be given untill the pup is at least 10 weeks old as the vaccine prob wont work as the pups have immunity from the mum in most cases.
the live vaccines shed in the poo of vaccined dogs for up to 8 days after vaccination but as they are modified they shouldnt cause illness in unvaccinated dogs but some info does suggest that it can infect an unvaccinated dog and cause a low positive on the elisa scale (parvo test) but this shouldnt cause illness.
there is a new strain of parvo in the usa, (its not in uk yet) that is very strong and if you read the info above it shows which vaccines work and which dont.
vaccines should also be Stored between +2°C and +8°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Care should be taken to avoid prolonged or repetitive exposure to high ambient temperatures following withdrawal from the refrigerator prior to use – in hot summer conditions vaccine potency can be severely reduced within a few hours.
in the uk we never vaccinate are own dogs the vets always do this but i understand in the usa a lot do it there self.
parvo is also shed in the poo of dogs that have had parvo for maybe up to 9 months after infection.
after reading all the info on vaccines over the last year i have just had 2 of my dogs done but not my other 2 as they are nearly 16 and have some health problems so to be on the safe side im picking up the vaccinated dogs poo as soon as its done.
if your going to rehome the pups then maybe you should make sure the new owners know that the pups will shed the parvo for up to 9 months or maybe even longer so that they can make sure that any other dogs they have are up to date on vaccines.
sooooo glad your little ones are on the mend
