Unfortunately, landlords do have the last word when it comes to permitting pets on their premises as they are legally responsible if someone gets bitten or injured on their property. They also can evict pretty easily if a dog is just a nuisance, i.e. excessive barking.
Since Riley now has a bite on his record, right or wrong, I think it will be difficult to challenge your landlord's decision. I hope you are able to find a new place that will welcome Riley. I think I would try to get a doctor's note stating the reasons why you need Riley with you before you look for another place.
I would also be really careful next time to not allow Riley to jump on or bother anyone in anyway so you don't have to go through this again. Pets are always conditional in leases and subject to removal at the landlord's discretion. |
