Try going to the regional forums and asking for recommendations there. Also, if you could find a pic of what you expect will sometimes help. I & my daughters keep brag books of past grooms to show new clients and those who want a change of style for their babies. A great place to start is the galleries right here at YT!
There are some "groomers" out there who shouldn't be grooming pet rocks but on the flip side most people who get into this business love working with pets and have a certain flair for it.
