Default New mommy questions.

Hi everybody! I don't post much but I do lurk and this site has been very helpful for me.

My Yorkie, Scout, just gave birth to two puppies yesterday, 7/17. They seem to be very healthy, they love to eat and squirm around! I am concerned for their mommy though.

Let me just say that her giving birth yesterday came as a complete surprise to us. She was due on the 21st and showed no real definite signs of labor. The only reason we knew she was in labor was my fiance going to the bathroom at 4:30 am to see a puppy on our bathroom floor. She gave birth to number 2 at 8:30 am.

She is being very aggressive with my fiance and I. I read on here that that can be normal, to just give her her space and just pop in from time to time to see how the puppies are doing, which we are doing. The real problem is that she hasn't really been eating or drinking much. I hand fed her about 4-5 little hand fulls of food yesterday and she did drink a fairly good amount of water too but that is about it. I just brought her some cottage cheese and left it in there with her. I've noticed that she hasn't gone to the bathroom as far as I can tell and that has me worried as well.

We called the vet yesterday morning because we were concerned that the puppies were not latching on but that eventually corrected itself (they never let go! lol ) and also, the after birth of the second puppy never came out. The vet said that either it will come out or it will be absorbed back in. We have no way of knowing if either happened because she will not let us near her at all. We're lucky if we can sit on the floor close by. We don't want to stress her out at all but we are becoming concerned. Any helpful advice?

I'm sorry if this post sounds disjointed but I am in a rush and wanted to get this out there. I won't be around for a few hours so if I don't respond right away, please don't think I'm giving the brush off.

Thanks in advance for any advice I may get!
