I think it comes down to the way your raised. I have a 13 year old son and if we are a store and I see a older person trying to get out a door with their hands full, I will tell him to please go ask if he can help, and he does. Now I see when we go it to stores he will hold the door open and let others come out before he goes in. I think it is the little things we teach our kids that make the grow up to be a good person that will help others. Take time to tell your son how you felt when no one come to help you and maybe when he grows up he will remember that and be 1 of the few to help others. When bad things happens you can always trun it around into a teaching moment for our kids. I am sorry this happen to you what goes around, comes around.

I was in a Crap Shack eating with family and we was just about to order when My son come up behind me and was choked. He could not get NO AIR at all. He could have died. I was trying everything I knew to do and people was just watching, the manager came out and said nothing. No one called 911 for us and the candy that was stuck was not coming out. I had to hit him as hard as I could in the back and it finnaly when down. Then he was able to cry, when you can't breath you can't cry. I also just set down and put my hand on my legs and just cried. I understand how close I come to losing him, but everyone else just set there. I would say in about another min or 2 he would have passed out. I guess that is when people would have thought to call 911 for us and he would have been brain died before help got there. Do you know the manager never said anything to us. Not even "is he ok"
