Sorry, I misread the age of the pups. Even for 5 day old pups it is okay for the mom to get away from them. They should be nursing about every two hours. I know some people give their momma dogs esbilac powder on their food but I have never done that. Everyone does things differently. I feel that is it important to give the momma plenty of food but I always just give mine a quality dry dog food and I add some Pedigree canned Lamb and Rice puppy food to the dry food.
