I know maltese are considered to have an extreme piebald gene...meaning essentially they are one big white spot, so I would assume they have ticking. Some dogs have more than others...Reggie's tummy is loaded, Frazier's ticking is more on his back. You can see the freckles on his skin in the white of his fur.

Another place for ticking...inside their mouths. Yorkies usually have a mottled color mouth inside....with the piebald gene...it's pink with black spots.
