I think he'll surprise you! I love traveling by car with my dogs too! We have traveled twice to and from Alaska from Florida and the dogs all did wonderfully. Our first trip was 10 days long of drivng all day (with pottystops of course) and hotel at night. The other trip was almost 30 days as we took a longer way and stopped at many places including Disney Land. I had a basket/carseat on the console where Teddy spent his day and the bigger dogs just hung out in the back seat. The all did wonderfully.
I have always found with my Yorkies that they always do better in the car when they have a spot that is all "thiers" a car seat seat/basket or whatever that is a secure place that they know is thiers and of course if it can be close to you it is that much better.
