Default I am beyond upset!

We walk Reggie 9/10 of a mile loop through our neighborhood every evening. Down the street on the corner is a lady who has a 10 year old Yorkie named Ike. I recently met her while out walking Reggie. Tonight she came out and met us at the street to tell us about what happened to Ike. It seems that the neighbor up the street from her was out walking his pit bull and brought him over into her yard to "meet Ike". She was holding Ike and with no warning at all the pit bull attacked her and Ike trying to kill Ike. Poor little Ike has been in the hospital and almost died. She got to bring him home Sunday. She was showing us his wounds and his neck was nearly ripped completely open. He went into shock and she said she couldn't even feel his heart beat when she got him away from the pit bull and into the house. She rushed him to a vet who was open on Saturday morning. He has multiple stitches and for a while the vet was concerned about tissue death but says it is healing now and looks like it will be okay. Laura, Ike's owner, is covered in bruises on both he legs and arms and 2 of her knuckles are all bandaged up from being bitten by the pit bull. That was the hand that was holding Ike and her knuckles were all that kept this dog from biting completely through Ike's neck.

The vet called animal control and reported the dog attack and they came out to get a report and retrieved the dog. Now get this.....the pit bull IS NOT current on his vaccinations! Not only that, but the wife came down the street later with her husband to see what the vet said about Ike and when the wife found out that her husband had brought the dog into Laura's yard to "meet Ike" she exclaimed that he should have known better than to do that since his pit bull had tried to kill her (the wife's) dog already before! Not only that, but her dog is a little long haired Chihuahua and I saw it running loose the other day and went to their house to tell them only to be told by them that they were "letting him run" some. I told them then and there that I would not be letting a little dog run loose like that in a neighborhood like ours with so much through traffic. Then they went and got him. At the time I did not know they had a pit bull in the back yard.

OH and Laura said the guy had the nerve to say, "can't we work this out as neighbors and each pay half of the bills?" Can you believe that?! I told Laura I would so be suing this guy and nailing his butt to the wall. IMO that dog needs to be put down too! I am sorry if that offends anyone but any dog that is on a leash and attacks a human being holding a little dog does not sound safe enough to be in a neighborhood to me! We have people walking dogs all through our neighborhood and children playing all around too. What if that dog goes after a child?

The whole time she was talking to us and holding Ike he didn't make a sound. He is usually quite hyper and yappy as these little guys can be but she said tonight he was just so loopy on pain meds that he had been very subdued. It just made me tear up to see his little neck all torn up like that and his legs shaved from IVs. I am so upset by this whole thing!

I told Mark I want to call animal control and tell them that when this thing goes to court I hope that they are going to push not to let that man have that dog back. Mark said they probably won't talk to me about it but I am going to see what I can do anyway.
