Yes, we are definately doing the right thing when it comes to potty training. It's a little unnerving, but we are starting from scratch. Shamus is about 4lbs. His mom was 8 so I anticipate a few more pounds on him in the upcoming months.
We are not scolding just rewarding. I did have a nice little pillow and a stuff animal in his crate with him, but he peed on everything, and it is currently drying. I leave the door open, and randomly put a little piece of his dog food in there or a broken up treat. They don't make treats that I can find small for him, so I have been using his dog food. He has gone in and out of it several times without prompting. He hates to be in there however when I cannot watch him. Whines like crazy. He is so small that I'm afraid when he goes under the bed and the sofa. So when I am not able to have him with me or watch him, I put him in the crate for those few minutes and then come back. Sometimes I tether him to my belt loop with a leash, like when I am doing dishes and cannot watch him. I read that in a book that doing that was a good idea so he can still move around, but be in a limited area. Its the whining that really gets us in teh middle of the night or during the day if I go to the bathroom or put the kids down to nap, he is just yelping and whining. What can I do for that?
