In reguards to the coughing is this something new? has he been around other dogs (strange dogs)? Maybe kennel cough? Has he been checked by a vet for the coughing? Collapsing trachea? I had a little yorkie that did this and she had a narrow trachea- did not collapse but whenshe would get excited this would be more pronounced. Another yorkie had a slightly enlarged heart and he would cough. Heratworm? THese are only thoughts and really should be checked out with a vet for a complete exam. It maybe an URI there are many possibilities.

I was also thinking he might be reverse sneezing. He really does need to be seen by his vet.
