Yes, dogs do bark for a reason. Mainly because they are like kids and they want to be heard. Mine are always barking when they are playing. They bark at me when it is treat time. They bark to let me know when my dh is pulling in the driveway. They bark when I am trying to talk on the phone.
Sometimes puppies bark just because they discover they can. I do have one male that is 10 years old and he has only barked a couple of times his whole life. When he whats something he usually just whines. Don't ask me why, I know he can bark but he just does not like to.
The only yorkie I have ever been around that was debarked could still bark but it was a soft bark. I don't think it bothered him at all but since yorkies can't talk I don't really know.
