I'd probably go with the crate you intend to use as he grows, and keep it in a consistent location. Make the crate as positive a place as you can. Penny is crate trained. I feed her in the crate, give her cookies in the crate, keep her favorite toys in the crate so she can retrieve them from there when she wants to play... she still doesn't really *like* being put in there, but she tolerates it well enough.
