I did not state I've done anything radical. Please, we are on the same side and I never said that the folks here are the problem or a problem in any way.
I believe that we need to take a step &/or steps that other groups who facilitated concrete changes have done.
Look what they have done for Gay rights in just the last few years. What have they done to manage the changes? It has taken years of hard work, marches and finding people in power who support them and will work with them.
The Million Man walk on Washington. What were they striving for and what has it accomplished?
I look back at real change in policies throughout our government's history and see that it has taken hard work. *Racial equality? Women's rights?*
It takes more than what can be done from our homes and computers.
I am not saying those things don't count. I'm saying they don't seem to be enough to facilitate real changes.
I am not saying it will be easy. I am looking for and to people who are willing to try and fail rather than not try at all.
Again, we are on the same side here and I am not saying I have all the answers.
Open minded and honest communication would certainly be a start.
I am sure there are others who have some ideas. NO ideas are wrong and certainly a safe place to explore those ideas and see if some can stick or inspire bigger ideas can not hurt the cause. |
Maybe what little I have done is not enough, but they are a start! If every single person can say they have done at least this much, then they can say it is not enough. Think of it this way, what if every single person did the same thing? What if even every YT member would mail in donations today to a couple of the good Rescue organizations associated with other YT members? How could that expand their rescue efforts? How many more dogs could be saved, get the medical attention they need, and ultimately find their way to a great home? How many members do we have? Multiply that by even $10 or $20!!!! Wow that could make soem change!
What if every person here had written to that judge that heard the puppymill case recently? Maybe the owner would have gotten a stiffer penalty that would truly act as a deterrant! Instead, she will probably do the same thing again.
What if every single person wrote to the congressmen in each of the states that are basically without pet sales protection laws? Maybe we could get the "Chloe Bill" passed in Illinois for one. This is a "sweeping change" bill that could really make a difference! It would limit breeders to 20 unspayed/unaltered dogs and put a lot more control on the sale of dogs, pet shops and add much needed penalties! It would put stricter guidelines on pet stores providing health histories, require licensing, ban those with felony dog abuse charges from breeding dogs, and require sanitization and safety procedures for kennels (among other things!)
These ideas are not enough, but they would be a great
start if more would participate. You say we have to start somewhere, I am saying this is a start. But how many are doing even this much? There are organizations and efforts underway NOW that we can support. We don't necessarily need to reinvent the wheel but we do need to PARTICIPATE!
Actually, I already said I can use some
MORE ideas to help the effort and wanted to know exactly what action you are talking about. Try what? Do what? What steps? I just want to know what have you done for the cause and if it sounds workable, I will help that way too. See what I mean? You say folks may call you radical, but I am asking why? What radical ideas do you have or actions have you taken that would make folks call you that? It is fine to say no one else is doing anything and something needs to be done. But that is not a solution. Tell me what your ideas to make a change are. Better, tell me what actions you have taken. I am always ready to listen to something that might help stop animal abuse. If it is fesible, I will jump in and roll up my sleeves for a worthwhile effort.
I am not afraid to leave my house, just tell me what you are doing outside of the home that has helped. I offered some ideas, you say they are not enough, so just tell me what you are doing that is getting better results. If I could go in person to every puppymiller and transfer some compassion to them I would, but that is also a pipe dream. So, concrete ideas! I think you have the "fire" and people would like to respond if there were specific ideas and projects.
I tried to list some simple projects that everyone can do TODAY to truly help. The only reason they have not make a big change yet is there is not
BIG support!
Before we start saying everything is hosed up and no one is doing anything, we need to ask ourselves what have WE done to help. If the answer is nothing, maybe we need to re-examine how we word our outrage. JMHO.
