I think Twitter is so popular because you can use it on phones. One thing I like about it, is I was looking at a dog abuse site, using my regular browser, and people were able to add things to the page by using twitter somehow. Normally you can't edit that page. It was like it had a "twitter announcement" feature. Anyway, they were able to add things, like "live" information, of a television program reporting animal abuse that night. So it seemed like if you wanted to inform lots of people of something happening in the next 24 hours, it would be useful. So I think normal websites will have twitter updates that give more "real time" information.
